Name: Jeff Winston
Position/s with DevonAir: Programme Controller
Years of association with radio station: 1980 - 1982
Most treasured memories of your time at the radio station: Split ads... I still don't understand the instructions I wrote and continue to marvel at the engineering brilliance that created the technology and the presenters who tortured themselves every 10 minutes wondering whether the jingles out of the split would sync together...
Driving up the M5 on Friday afternoon listening in horror as Pete Barraclough inadvertently took control of the transmitter and unknowingly went to air rehearsing that evening's sports show...
Trying to wind up Mike Joseph class interviews so we could go to an ad break...
Paul Owens’ Buck’s Fizz spoonerism… and his music...
Bob Kingsley valiantly trying to make my naff ‘good news’ spot work on the breakfast show…
Ian Waugh - basso profundo - putting Budleigh Salterton on the map…
Gerri Bennett persuading an endless stream of guests to give up their time and broadcast for nothing…
David Willis’s mum ringing me up and asking me to look after him!…
Sally Eckroyd adlibbing her way through a news bulletin without scripts...
Keith Cooper trying to control the outrageous Andy Archer at breakfast…
The snow... Help a Child at Christmas...
(aren’t you sorry I started this?…)
And so much more...
But most of all the talented team of wonderful people who created a speech music radio mix that an awful lot of people in South Devon listened to… and apparently enjoyed.
So long ago it all seems like a dream.

What happened after DevonAir? CBC and the end of meaningful speech, academe, the BBC and now, nearing the end, Head of Information Management (whatever that means)at the Peak District National Park Authority.
